Creative Engagement
Operating at ‘the speed of trust’ has become a mantra that has informed how I practice with both children and adults. Part of this lies in the creation of an environment that invites vulnerability because it is met with unconditional compassion and respect. In differentiating myself from other practitioners, I would say that this perspective is the blueprint for that unique-ness.
This may be why both liberation and narrative approaches appeal to me with such intensity, as I firmly believe that all of my clients hold the key to their own healing; I am not the gate-keeper or the key holder, but a guide along the path. A client-centered approach lies at the heart of my practice, and so therefore conscious attuning to client’s story and language is of utmost importance in the work that I do. I love to bring in different expressive arts modalities within session with clients, but I always preface by asking for client consent first.
There is an ability to open up new possibilities and hope for the future through the integration of artistic endeavors within the therapeutic milieu, but in my opinion, this capacity is beneficial only if they are engaged in with the client, not ‘by’ the therapist.
